How to install cave story on ubuntu 13.10?

Ah, sorry about posting in the wrong forum.

I, and my friend have downloaded cave story from the following link below:

edit: What I'm confused about? Eh.. when looking it up, It just confuses me on what will happen after I do it- Will ubuntu break? Will something bad happen? So i just sit there and think, should I do it???

I'm getting no errors (from what i've seen), When I run it, It just opens gedit from my point of view

My friend doesn't know why :/

The Linux version is 7 years old and unsure if it would work on current releases.

As it's a tar.gz file, you would install like others. There is VERY little info about installing, compiling or anything else on the website you link to and there is no README with any info in the download. I don't know what the 'Misc>DoconfigureforLinux' is all about, but maybe that has something to do with installing it.
