It seems like mostly an X issue. I'm going to request some basic info soon, but right now I'm wearing out the floor between the puter and the bathroom
BTW I think English is not Andrea's first language so what seems like a long drawn out explanation is actually an effort to be respected.
It boils down to broken graphics and frequent freezes.
Yes, as you have properly noticed, english is not my first language.... I try to give more details only because I'd like to be precise (or I attempt it!).... so excuse me if sometimes I'm too much loquacious! Effectively I've asked in another thread a suggestion on where to post this issue, since I'm a callow on this forum...
Good healing!
Ask me every info you need...
Thanks for being patient, I've had a rough 48 hours. That said let's start off by eliminating any guess work
If you would, please post the output of these commands:
Code:cat /proc/cpuinfo | head -10Code:lspci | grep VGACode:lspci | grep AudioCode:lspci | grep EthernetIf my assumptions have been correct I think I may be able to help you because I maintain over 20 machines with this hardware:Code:free -m
It's very flaky though!VIA C7 CPU @ 1500MHz
VIA CN700/P4M800 Pro/P4M800 CE/VN800 Graphics [S3 UniChrome Pro] (rev 01)
VIA VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)
Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 78)
1GB DDR2 RAM
Flash video performance is terrible, and due to the presence of "flash" ads on the net Firefox will appear to freeze unless you use Adblock Plus. And the P4M800 will NOT play full screen flash at all.
I haven't tried VLC, Totem, or Mplayer recently on that hardware but I doubt DVD's would play well with that graphics chip.
Installation can also be problematic! I always start from the advanced boot menu and choose "install" after being sure to check disc for defects!
I guess we should also know if you're using an optical drive to install or a USB drive?
I'd guess that some of your "any key" freezes are due to a screensaver wanting to activate when no resources are available.

Maybe it's important for the last result, but since I have had problems to load Xubuntu this evening, those datas come from Bodhi.
Thank you
Give me a bit of time to search for problems specific to the Intel Celeron M 1.70GHz CPU.
Regarding the wireless I'm beyond clueless because wireless support where I live is horrible and I seldom work on laptops.
But we have identical graphics chips so I should be able to help troubleshoot some of the graphics issues, it will however be slightly time consuming because I'll have to perform some test installs.
Thanks for your patience.
@ sudodus,
Are you still following this thread?

Don't use this space for a list of your hardware. It only creates false hits in the search engines.
I also thought Lubuntu would be the best fit, but Saucy is a total no-go because of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...e/+bug/1205643
I'm almost tempted to recommend trying Trusty, but I want to do some additional testing before doing so.
I've never tried Bodhi so maybe it's time to have a look
Yes
Edit: The following command will print pae (highlighted), if there is a PAE flag. Independent of that, there is probably PAE capability.
The Trusty daily build is fixed now for Pentium M and Celeron M. See the end of this bug reportCode:grep --color pae /proc/cpuinfo
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930447
You can also check for the front side bus (FSB) speed, if 533 MHz, there is probably a PAE flag
My Pentium M 1.7 GHz has 'only' 400 MHz FSB.Code:sudo dmidecode|grep Clock

Stilnovo, I think that kansasnoob's PreciseGnomeClassicTweaks according to this link
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Pr...eClassicTweaks
works well in many old computers, and it might be easier to install with low RAM using the One Button Installer according to
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OBI
because you need not pass a stage in the installation with the default desktop environment which might not work. In this case I recommend the tarball without OEM
GnomeClassic1204.tar.xz
