I have not missed Windows 98 since Windows 2000 came out.

Abend S0C1!
It's weird but sometimes I miss programming for the S370. My first real job back in the 1980s had several in their network, in assorted flavours and with assorted OSes.
My first Windows machine, which currently has a broken install of Ubuntu 6.06 (!) installed on it, came with Windows 98SE: I think the installation disk is lurking around somewhere.

My Blog
I did some programming at college on punch tape, the computer had ferrite bead memory!
AFAIR my first PC had MSDOS 2 and the GEM windowing system.
At work we had Windows 3.1, it would crash all the time. We also used Xenix.
Windows 95 was rubbish.
Windows 98 SE was usable if you ran a utility to free up the memory, especially after using Photoshop.
XP Pro was good, I still run it in a VM
Vista was pants and where I abandoned Microsoft for good.
In all those years the only money I gave to Microsoft was for XP which came with this laptop. I bought it because it was a "downgrade" from Vista
I installed 98 SE in VirtualBox but it would not boot up. That was lucky, if I had to see that little beating drum icon again I think that I'd go mad!
I have not missed Windows 98. I do however think people will miss Windows XP in April.
Win 98 with the jungle theme was awesome!
I do miss it, a lot! Some of my beloved games just won't run on XP or later ones (not properly, or not at all!).
Gaming was all I used win98 for. By the time I learnt to actualy 'Use' computers for something else, Win98 had been replaced with XP
I started myself with Windows 3.11 creating a card cabinet with all my dinosaur cards!
When I got my own computer I installed Windows 98 and later messed around with Mandrake Linux!
Now I am slowly installing Ubuntu 12 on older laptops for the charity I work full-time.
It is great to look back on some of these older versions but I wouldn't like to install Windows 98 again and hook it up to the internet. :-S
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
