    Hmm...don`t like the looks of this. Just looked at the files in Synaptic...very difficult to feel secure in what I`m deleting. Also, the auto-remove has me a wondering... I didn`t use this from the beginning because I read of it removing files it shoudn`t.

    Please post the link.
    Autoremove is one of the most secure of all maintenance commands.

    Don't use this space for a list of your hardware. It only creates false hits in the search engines.

    Autoremove posts a lists of packages which are about to be removed. Only if you confirm the list the actual deletion takes place.

    Klunker; & mörgæs;

    I am aware that "autoremove" in later kernels has been upgraded to also remove outdated kernels, not sure where that cut off happened. Klunker is running with HES, so maybe "autoremove" will be effective. Most interested to see. As indicated, pay attention to what "autoremove" indicates that it will remove. I will say that in a bunch of years using "autoremove" I have never encountered a problem. Smart package manager ! - I always copy/paste to a temporary text file what is going to be removed, in the unlikely event there is a problem, I then do have a means to quickly resolve - .

    We are on the down hill side of this sloppyation, having gotten a handle on what is going on ( will have to watch /root and make sure that strange directory does not get re-created). Once these old kernels have been removed, all that is left is the "normal" housecleaning operation.

    @ Topsiho; Continued agreement with your assessments. Get this system cleaned up and see what the situation is in a couple of weeks.

    Should I run autoremove then? Hard for me to look at a list of files and know if I`m okay to remove...

    Klunker; Hit "y" !

    As philinux prompts -- unless you have done something real strange and exotic with your system configuration, doing "autoremove" will only do you good ! As advised, though, have a good idea (copy !) of what "autoremove" will remove.

    Then it is back to getting those old kernels ( images, headers and related stuff) removed from your system.
