When you upgrade to latest you'll get a full boatload of unity8, great if you want such (worthless) stuff..
Otherwise appears safe to remove unity8 & then autoremove the rest

yea - that's really useful stuff in Xubuntu

I actually removed -datetime and reinstalled it with --no-install-recommends then upgraded

Though we're not actually going to be using -datetime here anyway, I only had it for some testing we were up to a while ago.

It only did so in a new install I did a hr. ago, not on my older install so may just be only on new or possibly I removed related stuff on my old/using install.
(I view 14.04 as Ubuntu's chance to set the last 3 years right, not as some beginning test of "convergence" on the Desktop..

It was all hidden by a partial upgrade here in update manager, dist-upgrade and synaptic saw it all though - 200Mb extra disk space on Xubuntu ... but I digress as this is really not going to affect Xubuntu
