    14.4 Problems I've encountered

    I didn't see this anywhere else, so I figured I'd make a list. These aren't in any particular order of importance, but they are persistant.
    I've included lspci,lshw,lsusb as .txt files to help with things.Here is the version:Linux poopzilla 3.13.0-8-generic #27-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 7 02:01:37 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    1. When trying to empty the trash can on the desktop, it gets stuck and will not deselect the trash can, I can however open files and empty the trash can fine that way.

    2.when first starting the gui, the screen looks to crash, with various pixels and garbage imagary on the screen. I can't really take a screen shot ( that I know of) but it basically looks like a pisture hasn't loaded all the way.

    3. Upon logging in: I usually get three errors. 1-a xorg error which says that it can't be reported because that has changed.( I think this is the error from #2 that is being reported) 2-gnome shell error, which displays the same message. 3- another xorg error.

    4. when I'm on another desktop other than one, and something is minimized, it will be restored to the "inbetween" area off screen of all of the desktops, of which I can just "alt+click" and drag it into a desktop so I can see what it's doing. This problem also happens less frequently with other programs on start (sometimes: VLC, Codeblocks, Gimp)

    That's all I have for now, Like I said, I didn't know where else to put this so that it helps someone to fix these errors. Hope this helps.

    Re: 14.4 Problems I've encountered

    Welcome. All posts regarding 14.04 LTS go here. It is still testing and not released until April. There will be problems. Expect them and the unexpected.

    The purpose of this sub-forum is to report bugs and discuss the testing of the new release. Operative word being 'testing'.

    If you are looking for a reliable release try 12.04 LTS (very stable) or 13.10 which will both upgrade directly to 14.04. Otherwise, consider it testing and not advised for production, stability or work environment.

    You observations will be helpful here, though, if you wish to continue with 14.04.

    Re: 14.4 Problems I've encountered

    2.when first starting the gui, the screen looks to crash, with various pixels and garbage imagary on the screen.
    Going back a year or more there was a video driver bug where the video cache in the graphic adapter was not fully flushed and we briefly saw the remains of what had already appeared on the screen in an earlier session. I am on Ubuntu and I see very, very briefly that same effect. I think it is what you are seeing. Not much can be done about that.

    3. Upon logging in: I usually get three errors.
    Yes, we usually go through a period when we get crash reports. I had similar errors a few weeks ago. They are resolved now. They usually go away by daily updating. It can take weeks for things like this to be fixed.

    Regards.

    It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

    Yep, I'm doing

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

    ... on a daily basis at the moment.

    @Buckyball
    I completly understand, that there are going to be bugs, I was just trying to list some of the ones I've come up with so that "the coders that be" may know about them? Does that sound right. Just reporting problems I encounter in the "testing" phase, to try to do my part to make it a better system. & thanks for moving this to the correct spot, I'll remember that for future reference.

    @grahmmecchanical
    Thanks for the heads up, but they don't resolve with updates. I'm sure other people are having the problem as well.

    Even though there are a few developers that monitor this subforum, if you want them to see your comments, it is better to either create a bug report, or post to the ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list. This is an unmoderated mailing list, so any one can post to it.

    Re: 14.4 Problems I've encountered

    Greetings,
    Some poking around on this page " https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty " may give you some understanding of the situation, though not many answers. Many of the fixes for these problems don't appear until the absolute final release.
