    Does apt-get give incorrect advice?

It looks like the advice from apt-get "The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required" is broken.

See the problems it caused me at thread

    See also for example:

Is it just broken or is there something I am not getting here?
I have a Toshiba Satellite C50D laptop with 3.4 GB of RAM and (AMD E1-1200 APU @ 1.4 GHz with Radeon HD Graphics) x 2 processor; (older posts refer to 8.04, 9.10, 12.04 on this or other hardware).

If you're starting a new thread with such a title why don't you make your first post self-contained and justify the title instead of just posting three links?

Well, my thread that I link to (the first one) is quite massive and everything in it seems relevant. Should I have quoted the whole of the thread? This thread etiquette here on ubuntu forums seems a bit tricky to get the hang of.

Please don't create threads pointing to other threads, it's confusing and not really fair to those who could potentially help you. You may bump your original thread once every 24 hours if you feel the need to.
