nvidia-settings giving me errors on apply and it dumps out

    Code:
    scott@scott-P5QC:~$ nvidia-settings

    ERROR: Error querying target relations

The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
      (Details: serial 872 error_code 2 request_code 139 minor_code 25)
      (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
    scott@scott-P5QC:~$
Do you need xorg.conf any more with nvidia driver?
    I deleted mine.
I am trying to setup a TV to the right of the main display.

I deleted mine because I made changes, nvidia-settings fussed, I rebooted and no ubuntu desktop, I got dumped at a command prompt.
So I deleted xorg.conf, rebooted, and I have desktop back, nvidia driver runs, I can display programs on the TV, but if I try to make a change in nvidia-settings, it gives me this error.

I think the TV picture needs underscan applied and I try to apply and it dumps this error.
So what do I need to do?

bug has been there for 23 days.

    http://askubuntu.com/questions/41218...advalue-intege

    solution is downgrade.
Why oh why do programmers release major bugs, and then let it just sit like that?

Before they release code, they do not test sufficiently.
Hey, it works on my system, so go... you know.

which driver is that? have been using 331.38 for quite some times and not a problem. 331.49 has just been released but it is not even in xorg-edgers yet.

Re: nvidia-settings giving me errors on apply and it dumps out

    Actually it is 304.117

I think I am using xorg edgers, so thought it was kept uptodate?
I see now they do not.
    I run 12.04 ubuntu.
So, who knows why its a bug even on this one.

How do you upgrade to your version of this driver?

Although maybe had some other recent issue so I downgraded hoping to fix.

Looking I have nvidia driver 304, and nvidia settings 331, so maybe version mismatch causing this.
I am reinstalling the 331 from xorg edgers.
I know their was a reason I downgraded, but do not recall the reason.

I know why now, I am again left with a borked system
dumped at a command prompt and force to use windows 7

How can I properly uninstall Nvidia driver?
    I tried deleting xorg.conf

Re: nvidia-settings giving me errors on apply and it dumps out

    totally freaky.
I managed to finally get it.

    sudo apt-get remove nvidia-current
    then
    sudo apt-get remove nvidia-304

Reboot and I would think no nvidia driver, BUT it is there now at 331.38

So having the other packages installed was causing major problems.

AND, I can underscan the TV, so It seems to be working, regardless of the earlier bug report.

Although I can make an under-scan change, nothing changes on the TV.

here is the config with under-scan set to 10?

Do you see any such setting in there?

    Code:

Re: nvidia-settings giving me errors on apply and it dumps out

I don't have a TV so have no idea about your problem. Besides, my Nvidia laptop is broken and is now in the repair shop, so can't contribute any more on the topic.
xorg-edgers is up to date. 331.49 was released just yesterday or the day before, so not surprising that it is not packaged yet.
