Problem to extend second screen with HDMI in Ubuntu 11.10

Hi there, This is my problem, I'm using ubuntu 11.10 in Sony Vaio 64 bits, when I connect the the HDMI to my computer, my computer recognizes the second screen, but when I try to extend the image of my computer, the second screen turn black or green but doesn't display the image, or otherwise I can display the image in the second screen but the screen of my computer turn black or green too. I have looking for about this problem but I don't have anything. Any idea? Thanks for your time and your help!

11.10 has been out of support for almost a year. Your best option is a fresh install of 13.10.

Besides, especially on new hardware using new software is important.
