Programs in Ubuntu 12.04 disapears after restart?

Hey!

This is my first time ever using ubuntu, so go easy on me.

Got tired of Windows and needed something easy to use on my HTPC in the basement.

I installed VLC and Chrome from the built in software centre and then I shut down the computer and went to work, the next day I can´t find any of them.

What did I miss? :/

Press the left Windows button of your keyboard, or click on the Ubuntu logo in the launcher on your left, to open the dash, then search for those two applications and click on them to run them. After that, right-click on their icon in the launcher and select "Lock to Launcher".

I´ve searched for them in dash but nothing. Installed them again from software centre, shouldn´t the centre let me know if I´m installing something that´s already om my drive?

Yes, the button should say "Remove" instead of "Install" in the game's page.

how did you install ubuntu? are you using a livecd or live usb stick without persistance? if so, that's why. whatever you do will be removed when you reboot

No, its a full install from an usb-stick. The stick has been removed
