downloaded and waiting for some free time to try it out. How much hard disk space does it need?
I am thinking it could replace Chrunchbang on ye old laptop. but we'll see how it fares first in vbox, then live, then maybe...
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
Full disk backup (newer kernel -> suitable for newer PC): Clonezilla
User friendly full disk backup: Rescuezilla
It depends how much you want to add/install and how much space you need for personal data. I think the original installed system fills less than 2 GB disk space, but I would install it into partition with 8 GB (or more).
Edit: I think you can try it with a vbox drive of 4 GB or slighly more (because the installer might not want to install into less than 4 GB).

Hi,
When I open https://lists.launchpad.net/torios/msg01142.html all I see is garbled characters?
Hi and so sorry for the late reply, my real life is yet again messed up and it is not easy to find yourself into very different time zone so it will take sometime
Well, yes, that is because there was an image and for some reason, Launchpad will not show that as an attachment and instead, it will show these weird stuff. It happened with me as well.
Here is a better version:
