Re: completely new to ubuntu and i can't get the ethernet connection to work

Can you give a more detailed information, can you see the network icon on the top? if so, try to see if there is a check mark on
    Enable Networking

Re: completely new to ubuntu and i can't get the ethernet connection to work

    Hi,

please open a terminal with CTRL+ALT+T and show:
    Code:
lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
    ifconfig -a
    cat /etc/network/interfaces
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    lsmod
    Any chance to connect wirelessly?

    Re: Ethernet connection

First: You need nameservers in your /etc/resolv.conf:
    Code:
    echo -e "nameserver 8.8.8.8\nnameserver 8.8.4.4" | sudo tee -a /etc/resolv.conf
You can uninstall the package resolvconf if you wish, sometimes its buggy.

Second: This driver often needs some module parameters:
    Code:
    echo "options forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/forcedeth.conf
    sudo modprobe -rfv forcedeth
    sudo modprobe -v forcedeth

    Re: Ethernet connection

No need to reload the driver. Check afterwards:
    Code:
    cat /etc/network/interfaces
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    route -n
    ifconfig -a
