Good news! The symlink idea is great and, of course, if you decide you want to install another OS you can simply do the same thing; create symlinks in the new /home directory to the folders your current install is symlinked to, then regardless of what OS you have booted, you are always looking at and working on the same files, no redundancy or duplication.
