I ran: sudo apt-get purge ubuntu-desktop
and the response was that it wasn't installed, so won't be removed.

I ask again ->Code:sudo service lightdm start
what in the world is going on ?
looks like it automatically started the GUI login page, yay!
I logged in and the desktop seems to be restored, as well as the side bar and top menu bar! The terminal window also opens successfully

Everything looks good, except after rebooting & opening chrome, I experienced an internal error. Not sure what triggered it though.. rebooting or opening chrome:

Maybe we are not out of the woods after all.
Play around in the system some and reboot a few times, see if anything breaks...
I still have my suspistions (sp) that all is not !
but it could be all is good,,
Also gnome-control-center still won't open. I get the bus error and pop-up that says that the application has closed unexpectedly.
I'm going to continue to play around with everything
