    Learning Ubuntu

    Hi there!

I'm Sam, chilean university student, and well, I just happened to install Ubuntu.
What I know about it? Approaches zero.
I did some research obviously, but I don't really know WHAT I need to know. So I came for help, I guess you could tell me what I need to learn? I don't really want to just look something up in google and copy it into the console, I want to know how to interact properly with the system, and I wonder if there are any books or files I could study to understand better!

    Thanks beforehand!

Maybe start with the Ubuntu Desktop Guide page for whatever release you installed. For example:

    https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/ubuntu-help/index.html

    https://help.ubuntu.com/13.10/ubuntu-help/index.html

But get used to the web searches and you'll find tons of info out there.

    Re: Learning Ubuntu

We learn Ubuntu by learning how to use the user interface. We learn commands when we want to learn Linux which is the underlying operating system that the components of the Ubuntu distribution sit upon. There is a sticky thread right at the top of this section listing user's suggestions for Linux learning resources.

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2015424

Another way to gain experience is to read the posts in the help section and note the advice and then carefully experiment using some of the commands. Especially those commands that produce information about the system. Write down useful commands.

    Regards.
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

    A free magazine here: http://fullcirclemagazine.org/
You can download all the back issues if it is of interest. The quickest way is to just change the digits in the address.
    For example from
    http://fullcirclemagazine.org/issue-80/
    to
    http://fullcirclemagazine.org/issue-01/

    Re: Learning Ubuntu

I see you have already gotten the link to Command Line Resources, but on that page is this book (a free pdf) that i have found to be great if you want to learn how to use Terminal (the command line). If you installed Ubuntu you probably want to learn how to really use it. This book is long, but it teaches you a lot in a logical progression.

Check out the Ubuntu Manual, available in many languages.
