iBook G4 won't boot 13.04 live dvd

I have an iBook G4 12" from 2005. I have had many kinds of linux on it before going back to mac. I tried to boot a 13.04 PPC live DVD. It gave me yaboot and the normal blinking dots, but then I get an 8-bit version of the standard background, and no mouse. Is this just my graphics card?

What did distro did you try to install? Lubuntu?

Most likely it is the graphics card.

Normal Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is not going to run well on an iBook from what I have read. You are better off trying Lubuntu.

Tried that. Still don't work.

Same yaboot issue?

Try an alternative install or 12.04. I didn't have as many issues when I ran 12.04 Lubuntu on my iBook from a disc.

I want unity. Tried that too.

Your ppc architecture is poorly supported by ubuntu. You may have better luck with this old hardware by using debian (which does still support ppc natively).

I'd second Lubuntu. I used 12.04. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/re...12.04/release/ Worked first time out. Only issue was Airport -- not recognized. I had ethernet handy so I didn't work on troubleshooting Airport.
