    LAN doesn't work

I have this old laptop HP Pavilion ze4400 more specifically ze4423ea.It had xp when I got it and it worked great, but it was slow so I decided to install Lubuntu on it.I burned Lubuntu 13.10 x86 and tried it but there is a problem with the LAN.It keeps searching for a network but it can't find anything and after a minute I get a message saying "Disconnected - you are now offline" and it starts searching again and the process keeps going for like 10 minutes and then it just stops searching.
I tried Ubuntu 10 which I had on an old CD I burned and it worked fine so I installed it.After that I updated it to 12 and everything works normal except that it's painfully slow to work with.Any advice how can I get internet on lubuntu?

    Nothing

I burned Xubuntu 12.04 32bit since I'll have to put something and net works right off the bat.
