VMware Workstation 10 - upgrading Ubuntu (guest) v13.04 to v13.10 fails

    Setup:

Host: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit with VMware Workstation 10 (WKS)
    Guest: Ubuntu 13.04

Every so often I'd upgrade VMware Workstation and then would upgrade the guest Ubuntu install the latest release supported by my current version of VMware Workstation. I've had this Ubuntu guest install for a few years now. I recently upgraded from WKS 8 to 10 and was then able to upgrade the Ubuntu guest from 12.10 to 13.04 without trouble. It was when I attempted to go from 13.04 to 13.10 that I ran into the error shown in this screen shot:

    vmware-workstation-10_ubuntu-guest-13.04-to-13.10_vm_upgrade_failure.png

At that point the caps and scroll lock LEDs would flash and I'd have to revert to an earlier snapshot. Is this a known issue? So my far Google/forum searches aren't coming up with anything that appears related.

    Thanks for your help.
