    Thumbs up Moving to Xubuntu

    Hi,
    I have an announcement to make:

    After experimenting and enjoying using Linux OSs instead of Microsoft OS for about 6 years I finally found the Distribution I'll stick to for the rest of my .... life .... !

    To name it: It's xfce+ubuntu=XUBUNTU .

    This is a statement from a 75 years old...not grown up in the computer age ....retiree
    What I found most attractive in the Linux World is the selfless support of like minded people encouraging and helping each other to find a better way of life!
    Thank you all who helped me to over come my struggles, reflected in my threads, to come to this conclusion!

    There are treasures in this world you can't buy with money!

    Re: Confession

    It's actually xfce+Ubuntu, and it ROCKS! Welcome to the Xubuntu lovers club!

    I went one step further and for new installs I now use the mini.iso with xfce4 (the desktop environment used in Xubuntu) and only the apps I want/need. My computing life is complete ... for now.

    I tried a lot of things along the way but have found my perfect match also.

    Enjoy.

    yep fast and highly customizable, fancy effects would be a nice option, but i have not messed with compiz on xubuntu lately, comiz has just been a bit buggy since 10.04 for me, dont think i tried it on raring or saucy though

    Exactly what I need on my somewhat underpowered Samsung netbook.

    Another lover here.

    There is a lot of knowledgeable Xubuntu (Xfce) people on this forum. I mean really knowledgeable. If, you want some help, try posting in the *Desktop Environment* section. You find the Xubuntu Guru's faster there, I have found.

    Some helpful links, if you are interested:

    I use KWIN with my Xubuntu/Acer install. A much better and smoother WM than XFWM4 (which, for all its supposed speed, has some pretty ugly tearing issues) -- unless you're able to install proprietary video drivers.

    Re: Confession

    @Bucky Ball: Great and smart Idea...
    I'm going to try this as well...
    I always thought ---> the installation comes with so many packages --- do I need or ever use them?

    Are there any difficulties to expect? Special precautions to consider? Minimal requirements to check? etc.

    EDIT: 21 hours later.

    The only minimal requirement for me was to have a hard-wired connection to the Internet (no Wi-Fi)!

    But I got stuck and my google search to proceed was fruitless....so I ended up here again
    > mini.iso downloaded and burned,
    > installed and also
    > I got startx installed to have a minimum GUI for the terminal...

    Now I tried

    Code:
    $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10
    $ sudo apt-get update
    $ sudo apt-get install xfce4
    and here i get the message:
    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository
    not found!

    What is to do or where can I go to get the information what to do?
