Ubuntu-Gnome keyboard not working on LG TX Alsia netbook

    Dear Sir,
I booted Ubuntu-Gnome 13.10 and booted my machine with the iso installed in usb, but my keyboard is dead but usb mouse is working and I am not able to install the same since when I reach the part where I have to type in user name I am stuck, nothing works, but my previous version of ubuntu 13.04 was easy and everything worked perfectly. I am very upset that I formated my hard disk and now stuck without a OS.
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thankyou.

Re: Ubuntu-Gnome keyboard not working on LG TX Alsia netbook

While you are running the live iso, try selecting a more appropriate keyboard in the "Keyboard" section of Settings.

if that works, the change may or may not "stick" when you do the install. If not, you would need to repeat the keyboard selection.

The installer also requests keyboard selection early in the process.

If that doesn't resolve things, you may have found a bug.

Re: Ubuntu-Gnome keyboard not working on LG TX Alsia netbook

I tried every keyboard listed in the keyboard selection tool, nothing worked, dont know if any body did have the same problem, this is really shocking for me especially from UBUNTU and my system is the LG Xnote TX( netbook) sometimes known as TX Express. I installed the system using onboard, even the installed system had the same problem but anyway I reverted back to 13.04 Raring and wait till 14.04 is released.

    Dmesg spitted out
[ input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard as /devices/platform/i8042/serio0/input/input4
[ 1.095649] Key type trusted registered

Smile Re: Ubuntu-Gnome keyboard not working on LG TX Alsia netbook

    From ArchLinux forums.......

I managed to find the problem and correct it, at boot press tab to enter grub menu and press F6 (other options) add this line without quotes...

    "i8042.nopnp=1 i8042.dumbkbd=1"

which should look somewhat like this

kernel /boot/casper/vmlinuz root=/XXXXXXX quiet splash-- (now remove those two dashes and add the above line) then it should look like this.
    kernel /boot/casper/vmlinuz root=/XXXXXXX quiet splash i8042.nopnp=1 i8042.dumbkbd=1

    and press ENTER

That's it and everything works as normal, this problem happens only with Intel i8042 chip I guess and the kernel module bug with latest kernel's

and thanks to those guys, they saved my system.

    Hi,

Could you collect the output of "sudo dmidecode" from your LG labtop?

    Thanks a lot!
