ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 upgrade problem

Hello ,

i have a problem on my old laptop
My laptop was ubuntu 13.04 with lxde before
and i had successfully upgraded it on 13.10

Login works but after that the desktop stays in black screen , mouse and keyboard works

please help

my old laptop is
Compaq N610c
512 ram
1.8 ghz
ATI radeon mobility 7500

What do you mean by 'successfully'? Did it work for some time and then stopped?

What i mean is that upgrading 13.04 to 13.10 via "do-release-upgrade" done with no errors and then after installation i restart my laptop and then login , thats it after login my screen goes black with a mouse cursor

How does a live boot of 13.10 work?

Not working .. it hangs after cd rom detection .. so now i d switched back to ubuntu 13.04 again

So either 13.10 does not work out of the box or it's too heavy in a live boot. 13.04 is supported a couple of months more, and when that is ending you could try installing 13.10 again through the mini.iso or try Bodhi.

Some more memory would be a big help for the old computer. Should cost very little second hand.
