When you enter the title to a new thread there is a little button that says "check if already posted".
No need for a new post.
Numerous "old" posts on the subject.
Search, read and make up your own mind what constitutes spyware.

    Hello and Welcome

This has been discussed many times . Search results from Amazon are provided in the dashboard/dash for those who choose to use them and can be disabled from the privacy application in the system settings.

I wonder does the liscense for the privacy agreement allow the dash search to be used from a script.

    Re: Spyware

It's not spyware...the search is sent invisibly to the Amazon server and it makes some shopping suggestions...in turn, Canonical the developer of ubuntu gets some revenue to help with development...
they can't see what your doing...in any event...you can easily turn off all online searches in "privacy section" of system settings...then searches only show what is on your system...no biggie really...

Some seem to over dramatize and make a big fuss about what is really nothing...I know people on the linux mint forums that often talk about this...meanwhile their forum displays target ads for the same purpose...but no one seems to make a big deal about that over there...

I guess it's that there are some folks that make ubuntu complaining into a hobby

    Re: Spyware

If you want to avoid the possiblity of spyware (which I don't think it is) but like Ubuntu, then consider installing one of the non-Unity DE's...

Ubuntu Gnome, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu are all in the same family, but none of these have Amazon (or any other) reporting.

There are other threads making the same claims, find one of those.
