I think Linux has an advantage here over Windows that is being unused.
For example, there are millions of people that would prefer to host their own videos instead of using Youtube, no need to upload, convert etc. Also, commercial sites like youtube impose censorship, and are pushing advertisements to your users.
It looks like one would have to set up an FTP server. Install Pure-FTP server in Synaptic package manager. Setup port forwarding config for the NAT router. Setup the FTP daemon and the NAT router to use PASV for the FTP server. Use something like Namecheap as a domain registrar and DDNS service
That ‘s way too technical for me and most users. It would be great if Ubuntu came with all that installed, it would help the Linux platform.
Can somebody post step-by-step instructions that anyone can follow?
