    Video card info/help

    Hi!

I'm looking for an inexpensive video card that's very Ubuntu 13.10 friendly!

I have a MSI mobo, 8 gigs and running 64 bit Ubuntu 13.10.

    Any idea's?

    Thanks!

How do you want to use it?

    - High definition video
    - 3D graphics
    - compositing
    - games
    - what resolution (widthxheight), or should I ask what monitor?

nvidia works fairly well with the free nouveau driver, but you need a proprietary driver for HD video or 3D graphics. I have an nvidia GeForce GT 430, which is a couple of years old. You can find prices in your country via the internet. Maybe it would be at the low end for you?

That's not very demanding on the GPU. What GPU are you currently using that can't handle it?

    Re: Video card info/help

It might be hard to get something better than the free driver for ATI/AMD/Radeon cards. But I would agree with Temüjin that it should be good enough for 'everyday writer, calc etc'. The resolution of the screen is only 1366×768 according to this link.

But if you want something more powerful, I suggest nvidia GeForce GT 430, which can give you speed and advanced features for a reasonable cost (the card I have and described in post #2). It is a couple of years old, but is still sold. Probably you won't need a newer or more advanced card.
