    Re: Running Windows Programs

You need to give more information on the release you are running, the CAD program you are trying to run and install Wine.

But first you need to do some research. Try:

    'your cad program' ubuntu
... in a search engine, where 'your cad program' is the name of the CAD program. I'll move this to the Wine sub-forum when it is established that is what you need (and there's a 99.9% chance it is).

You could try wine, which is a compatibility layer allowing you to run Windows executables on Linux. It doesn't always work. Try http://appdb.winehq.org/ to find out whether other people had success installing your app.

Else, consider using a virtual machine or continue dual booting for a while.

Doing a search, I come up with something called 'Crossover'. What is this?

The linked page from the Wine HQ website shows the ratings for different versions of VectorWorks: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...cation&iId=488

CLick on the version you intend to install to get more details.

But ... I will tell you in advance, a Silver rating means that many of the features don't work -- so even if you do get it installed, it may not end up being worth the effort.
Ubuntu 16.10 Mate, Mint 18 Mate; MS Win 8.1, MS Win10 Pro.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.

Crossover is a commercial, open source program, whose sales support Wine development. I am a buyer, and use it for what it works with and use PlayOnLinux for what it works with.

I drink my Ubuntu black, no sugar.
