Hide topbar while using Google Chrome

How to hide top bar (which includes buttons like clock, battery meter, etc ) on ubuntu 13.04 while using Google Chrome. Same feature can be seen on Sublime Text 2 when we use full screen mode (F11) and only tabs and page is visible (basically hiding the top bar).

F11 results in hiding chrome tabs and omnibox too. I just want to hide top bar.

Looks like you have to run a different desktop to do that

Maybe things will change in 13.10

I see. The problem is that Unity's top panel doesn't have a hide or autohide feature, and Chrome's fullscreen mode doesn't show tabs. Given the direction Canonical has taken Unity, the former is unlikely to change.

You could try a different desktop environment, like Cairo-Dock, that doesn't require any permanent real estate. Or, you could try a different browser. Firefox, for example, will show the tabs and address bar in fullscreen mode if you mouse to the top of the screen.
