I'm in the market for a new laptop: my Lenovo T500, which has been a fantastic workhorse, is showing signs of age (won't power down properly: have to actually take the battery out!). I'm spoiled with the Lenovo keyboard, but I'd be willing to try something else. My main requirements are: HD screen (1920 x1080), reasonable power: I'm not a gamer, but I do some fairly intensive scientific programming, and a really good keyboard - I do a lot of writing. Also, I'm hoping to keep price down; say $1200-$1500. And of course it has to 100% limux compatible (screen, audio, ports, wireless etc).
I had a look at a Sony Vaio Pro yesterday - very sweet machine, and the idea of an SS HD is attractive (I'd maximize space by getting rid of Windows, for which I have no use at all). Didn't have much of a chance to check out the keyboard though. Also, the touchscreen is unnecessary.
Anyway, I'm hoping for some recommendations: there seem to be trillions of different machines out there, and I'm not sure where to start looking!
Thanks!
