The thing with a wiki is - more than one person can maintain it

    I'd go for it personally

That said - do you know this page exists? http://ubuntuforums.org/misc.php?do=bbcode

Exactly why I preferred it over a thread post.

Yes I know that and it is perfect as an exhaustive list in concise form. I just wanted to make the frequently used parts more descriptive, and initially that meant only 'Code' tags.

I was (still am a bit) hesitating because it is going to address many such methods that are specifically related to the forums only (like finding & using # button) and may not apply anywhere else.

Thanks for the encouragement leeper69. I'll update this thread when the Wiki Page is created.

Have you seen This ? bbcode plus examples.

I think a wiki page on bbcode would be easier to find than Googling for some people.

    Hi, varunendra.

Mmm; I get the impression that this one point really niggles you, yes?

I've only just discovered how you actually do this myself; and I HAVE to admit, you DO have a point! It does look more 'professional', certainly. I wasn't aware that 'smileys' and other stuff might occasionally get transliterated in the process of posting, though...

    Regards,

    IF
the advice given has helped you, PLEASE have the courtesy to post back and say 'Thank you'..!

Wow! 4 months and 151 posts, and you only "just" discovered it? Amazing ! Your case DOES emphasize my point.

Actually I've been thinking for months to finally shift the guide-post to a wiki page, but never got the time since I made my mind for it. Hope it happens soon.

For now, I'm thinking of creating just a simple 'CodeTags' wiki page. If someone (or even I) found time to create another page that covers a wider range of tags, then of course this page could be merged into it.

I like the idea, but I personally believe that page is so useful because of its conciseness and simplicity.

Besides, a user needs that guide in the very end of a thread, when their objective of creating the thread has been achieved and nothing more is to be done in the thread. As such, I think it is best to leave it the way it is now.

'Code' tags are something that new users should be educated about as soon as they start a support thread. So I think the 'SolvedThreads' guide (only a heading, a one-line description and its link) can be a part of that guide instead.

You can lead a horse to water ...

You can have stickies too ...

You cannot make either the horse drink nor people read

Code tags are mentioned in the posting guidelines - linked from the CoC.

Point people at that - that ALSO links to undecim's post
