    Cool Lenovo Ideapad z585 Precise Installed wifi OK Dual Boot Win 7 no Sound SOLVED

    Lenovo IdeaPad z585 with Ubuntu Precise 32bits Installed in dual boot using GRUB along Factory Preset Windows 7 Home Premium.

    PROS: Wireless works with some extra work (read below).

    COS: Have no sound or video playback using Chrome, Firefox, VLC, Video starts playing but freezes in the first frame, then you have to pkill or killall the proccess (firefox, chrome, VLC), else when you try to play .mp3, .ogg, etc sound file the same behavior happens.

    PLEASE ADVICE ME HOWTO GET the sound working in this LENOVO IdeaPad z585 Laptop.

    THIS IS HOW i manage to install Ubuntu Precise 32 bits in this LENOVO IdeaPad z585 laptop:

    (NOTE: you need to connect a ethernet cable to the computer because Ubuntu as is, is not going to recognize your Wireless Card)

    I manage to install Ubuntu Precise 12.04 32 bits Gnome Desktop in this laptop, here are the steps i take:

    01.- I upgrade my BIOS to the newest version.
    02.- In BIOS i selct USB Legacy support since am booting from a USB drive with YUMI.
    03.- BIOS change from UEFI to Legacy and Legacy as prefer device to boot.
    04.- In BIOS change the order of booting to first USB boot then hard-drive, Save Settings and Exit.

    05.- Now in Windows 7 64 Home Premiun I backup 3 DVDs with the OEM Image.
    06.- Using diskpart i erase the last 2 partitions from my hard-drive, leaving only the 100mb and C: partitions.
    07.- Resize my C: partition from 750g to 550g, leaving the rest in unallocated Space for my Linux Ubuntu.
    08.- Download YUMI or unetbootin and Linux Precise 32bits and create a bootable USB Drive with that image.
    09.- Reboot in USB Drive and install Ubuntu as normal (Along with other Operating Systems).
    10.- After install Ubuntu, take off the USB Drive and Reboot in Linux Ubuntu from GRUB in HARD-Drive.
    11.- Now in Ubuntu i did a apt-get update and upgrade.
    12.- After that i installed the suggested missed drivers, that included the wireless driver.

    13.- After this Step you will not longer need the Ethernet Cable Since the wireless is now working, go ahead and disconnect ethernet and connect using wireless if you want.

    So far that take care of the installation issue, but now i end up with a working Ubuntu, with Sound Driver not working, Am posting this issue in hope someone knows howto get sound driver working in LENOVO IdeaPad z585, here some Hardware Outputs:

    PROS: CHROME does not hang up when playing videos from youtube
    No more Freezing so far.
    I got SOUND!

    CONS: Right-Click on Mouse Pad does not work.
    The touch keys MUTE, VOL UP/DOWN, CAMERA, NIGHT Does not work.

    So far its been good, i wil keep updating as i test this machine a few more days.

    My LENOVO z585 IdeaPad had sound now! this is what i did:

    Update and Upgrade:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    Install ubuntu-restricted-extras
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
    Install this key and update
    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa
    sudo apt-get update
    Download amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-6-beta-x86.x86_64.zip from AMD.
    (of course go ahead and get the Latest here:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...eon_linux.aspx )

    Install

    unzip amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-6-beta-x86.x86_64.zip
    sudo chmod +x amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-6-beta-x86.x86_64.run
    sudo apt-get remove fglrx
    sudo ./amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-6-beta-x86.x86_64.run
    


    Works in both i386 or amd64.

    Press Ctrl + C when finish, after a few seconds without any output (The important thing is you erase the .conf files and restart your alsa), then ...

    sudo nano /etc/default/grub
    In /etc/default/grub change

    Save and exit (Ctrl X + Y, Enter), update grub:

    And alter the master and other settings using arrow keys, Now you have sound.

    I dont know if some of those steps are not necessary since i did this howto using my history file, but seems to work, please advice if you found any problem, thank you all.

    sudo su
    cd /etc/modprobe.d
    echo "options psmouse proto=exps" > /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.modprobe

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="edd=off nolapic radeon.audio=1 acpi=on"
    #GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="edd=on nolapic radeon.audio=1 acpi=on"

    in /etc/default/grub and seems to boot faster
