Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Hey I'm having a problem installing ntfs-3g/fuse on edgy eft. When the package is configuring it gets up to:
    * Reloading kernel event manager... [ok]
And then just sits there for an eternity. If i ctrl+c it, it stuffs up dpkg and I need to do a
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
But it does the same thing, does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks

    Hello all.

    Is any repo for AMD64?
Some peoples here report ntfs-3g work on AMD64 from source.
But apt much easer for such a newbie like me.

    This is what I did.

Go to any site where there is an attachment in firefox. Now, in the save box locate the ntfs drive and save the file on the ntfs drive. The file will get created with 0 byte but download box won't come up nor the file will get written, it will remain 0 byte.

Same is true with azureus. Open a torrent and point the save location to ntfs drive mounted using ntfs-3g and it gives an error "write failed".

If i download the file to ext3 or jfs and then copy paste in nautilus or konqueror the file gets copied with out any problem.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Ok, some more info about this weird issue.

It's not a driver problem, because it's happens also for FAT32.
It's also happens for not all file type, and not all apps (epiphany works well, in fact i only saw firefx react like that)
    Reproducing it is easy :
    - set the download directory to a FAT32/NTFS one
    - go to file:///<where you have some stuff>
    - click on a .tar.gz, .gz (it's mostly happens in that type of file) and select download. It create the file but that's all. Leave it with 0 octet
    - click on a .deb, some bianry file,... It works, but put an extension at the end of the file name (.deb, .bin for binary, .o for object file...)

Ex: Go to file:///bin, and click on bash. Select download, and you'll have a bash.bin.

Really weird issue. I'll fill a bug, but i don't know where.
You said that it happens also on azureus. Did exactly the same happens (add extension for binary file...)

For the wierd problem I think it is issue because of Edgy...

The save was working earlier with Dapper. I had compiled the code and used it but now it has stopped working. Not sure why

No i test it on dapper, and i had exactly the same problem, at least with firefox.

How the problems appears with azureus, what type of file do you wanted to save, did you try with other type like .txt...

I haven't tried out with many file types as such. Let me do it today some time and drop the updates.

For azureus I was trying to save .rar, .avi, .vob files to the ntfs hard drive.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

so i have tried this guide under edgy. i have not installed the ones in the repos and used this guide since my only NTFS drive is a portable USB HDD.

i followed the guide and everything seems to have installed fine. No error messages etc. Since I had no drives listed in fstab i skipped step 2. I restarted the computer, connected the USB HDD and nothing appeared on my desktop. Tried to find something under MEDIA or MNT but there was nothing.

What am i doing wrong? any clues?
