Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Perhaps it is the "fuse" issue. I am thinking the kernel that is with feisty is fine, whereas the one with Edgy is lacking the up to date item. I know there are fuse-utils... but I know nothign to very little about compiling things , I have about a 25% success rate of compiling programs that will run in general so I am not optimistic on that. I don't need to write to my NTFS on my laptop, so much as read it, so therefore the default ubuntu setup of fstab was probably sufficient. I'll leave the ntfs-3g there and will just avoid writing to it until I do further research.

It's turns out that I had ntfs-3g installed in my distro (Ubuntu Ultimate 1.3, edgy based) but ntfs-config was not installed. I installed it and everything is happy doory.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Also note, I didn't have to edit the fstab file.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

For the life of me, I just could not get anything to work without warnings on my edgy machine... so I went to http://fuse.sourceforge.net/ and downloaded the latest file. I uncompressed it.
    Then I did the usual
    ./configure
    make
    sudo make install.

Usually I have issues when installing from source.

That went well... and I was on a roll, so I went to the ntfs-3g site, downloaded the latest tar and did the same thing. I removed "force" from my fstab entry, rebooted, and alas, the drive is automatically mounted and readable. If I mount or unmount from terminal, the warnings are gone

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

my usb drive no longer mount be itself... however after using pmount-hal it does mount... but there are following errors coming...

process 3134: Applications must not close shared connections - see dbus_connection_close() docs. This is a bug in the application.

    please help...

I am using Ubuntu 7.04, on my IDE+SCSI machine, I have 2K on IDE and Ubuntu on SCSI, I just downloaded ntfs-3g and ntfs-config from the reps, then I installed and rebooted and set with ntfs-config to read and write, I got the Windows drive icon on my desktop after that and it works fine now.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Since I have edgy on my laptop and fieity on my desktop, and since I installed ntfs-3g on my feisty machine first, I though my laptop would be a no brainer. My understanding is as follows... the fuse module with the edgy package is "out of date" with ntfs-3g. Once I updated the fuse module from source, everything is fine.

I never updated my laptop b/c I had to do a bunch of "magic" to get my wireless working and to get most of my acpi functions to work and I don't want to loose that functionality. I noticed on two desktop machines at work lost their ndiswrapper and acpi config's. One day, I'll clone my drive and then give it a try.

    hi.

I cant get this to work when i try to install i get this error :

    czepluch@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install ntfs-configIndlæser pakkelisterne... Færdig
    Opbygger afhængighedstræ
    Reading state information...

    What can i do ?

I don't even know what language that is! I assume you use English as your primary language? There is something odd going on with your locale settings somewhere. Beyond this, am of no further use to help you other than it looks like there is a dependency problem with libdbus-1-2 (>= 0.60) On a hunch, if you don't hear back from someone more knowledgeable, open "system settings" and then "regional and language" and see what is the default language. I use KDE and not gnome, but I think these items are similar in the menu.

I went to altavista's bablefish site and cut and paste the text in there and selected German to English and then Dutch to English. It looked like one of those. The former got me some words but it still was not translated as readable. It might be Islandic or some Scandinavian language? These are not options with the babelfish site.
