Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

ok, good news: i tried to play a song which was bugging with another player, and it worked. quite fine. even better (but strange): the first time i had this problem, i tried to play with Movie Player the song that was bugging on Rythmbox (the one i use by default). it didn't work. this time, after trying with Audacity, i tried on Movie Player. no problem at all.

finally, it seems to be more a Rythmbox bug (eventually because of ntfs??) than a data corruption. but quite strange then that it always bugs on the same spot.
has anybody ever heard of that?

@aseembehl - okay cool, now it seems your fuse is at least reckognized, lets try this again
    Code:
    chmod o+rw /dev/fuse
try that alone and if it doesnt work try
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ntfs-3g libntfs-3g-dev --reinstall
    again
restart and try again hopefully it will work this time

    ok, thanx.

but coming back to the drive problem:
each time i restart the pc, my os drive (originally sda) and the ntfs one (sdb) exchange their labels. quite now, my ntfs is showing up as sda, and the os on sdb. and they exchage in and out their original places quite randomly at each restart.
    what the hell is this???

@ aseembehl - thx! np! glad its working for you now!

@kblo - i think i know what your problem is. I want you to open up your computer when it is off! and double check the jumper pins on your hardrive. If you are using CSEL (Cable Select) on either both or one, this could be the issue right here. It is not good practice to do this. Make sure one is on master and one is on slave using your cable ribbon as a guide. Usually i find that the blue end of the cable goes into the mobo, the grey end is the slave, and the black end is the master. You may need to reconfigure , but once you have rearranged it should boot up just fine without this switching. link with pictures on it in case you dont know

    good guess!

i took a look, but my os hd was already switched to master. and the ntfs one is sata, so no switch.
tried to jump it from sata-0 to sata-1 entry, to see what happened.
good signal: automatically mounted by startup. it wasn't happening so far, and i asked myself why.

so, let's see what goes on for next boots...

    thanx a lot, so far.

it seems like un-mounting the drive then enabling it when going to ntfs-3g config solved my problem!

    thanks for this thread!!

On Feisty the quick auto config did not work but the edit /etc/fstab with force option worked a treat
    Thanks
