    Quake 3 (ioQuake3)

You'll need the original Quake 3 game in order to play ioQuake3.

i used to play it (UFO AI) but then gave up after i found out aliens were too good and cheating and also major issue was at the time it was no ending. and also some other major bugs. otherwise great graphics, good concept (how can it not be since it's like the legendary UFO games from the 90's)- recomended.

edit: i only wish they oculd make maps descructable. but i guess the engine prevents it.
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
Full disk backup (newer kernel -> suitable for newer PC): Clonezilla
User friendly full disk backup: Rescuezilla

OpenTTD maybe? http://www.openttd.org/en/ (open source Transport Tycoon Deluxe remake) I can be heavy on the CPU on large maps / lots of verhicles but it doesn't utilze the GPU (just SDL) so any graphics card is ok for this game.

I'm in the same boat as the OP (perhaps worse), my graphics chip is too old to run any current software on Ubuntu requiring OpenGL. Your options vary depending on what you like to play.

If you want a mere puzzle game, I suggest Frozen Bubble or Monsterz as a start (these are available in the software center).

If you like word games (especially scrabble), I personally like Anagramarama even though its not rated that well. I don't think most reviewers are familiar with the very uncommon words available in scrabble play (available in the software center). Otherwise the only real scrabble alternative available at the moment is Wabble.org.

If you like RPGs, then installing a SNES emulator is your best route as there were so many good RPGs made for that system (ROM files have to acquired from sources other than Ubuntu software center). I personally use ZSNES (available from the software center). However, if your computer is like mine, you will need to run in the low resolution and no OpenGL modes.

If you want a good First Person Shooter, you very limited. DosBox is probably your best bet running Doom or one of the other Shooters of that era (DosBox available from software center, game files available elsewhere).

If you want to try the really retro no-graphics option, there are lots of text based games still available for DosBox; Zork I-III and Amnesia are pretty good.
    Who's Awesome? You're Awesome.
