I just noticed the server I'm connected to is running ubuntu 7.10!
Wish me luck with the upgradeS...

    8.04.4 LTS and functionning...

8.10? Who knows? Not functionning, ping says 100% package loss...
The disks are not being mounted anymore.

    Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS
But I'll have all the websites configurations do again.

    Ubuntu 12.10

The result of the "make" command:
    - Sitting bored in front of a computer
    - Watching abstruse output scrolling upwards too fast to be read
    - And waiting for something to go wrong

Are you really doing a hop skip and jump from obsolete OS to obsolete OS until you get to a current one? A fistful of threads reporting problems with various upgrades suggest it would be quicker and more reliable to backup all the data and then install a current version directly from DVD.
Ask me a dumb question. Then I'll know I am in good company.

224 MB. may be an issue with any *buntu though it says 128 is a practical minimum. It may install but if swap is used much it may be painfully slow. Video may be an issue as well but the only thing you can do is try I guess. You're not out more than time if it doesn't work. If there's too much disk thrashing would it be worth $7-$10 for more RAM on Ebay? According to docs I find your machine will support a max of 768 MB. I have a PIII latop with 512 MB. and that seems adequate. Puppy is a good suggestion too.

I've run a double upgrade twice before.
One time it was a success, that being because it was a fresh install with no added software.
The other failed during the second upgrade. It had added software.
I haven't had the chance to upgrade from a dead release to another dead release so don't know what to expect.
    But from 7.10 it should only take you 3 hops (7.10 > 8.04 > 10.04 > 12.04).
One upgrade can be nerve racking enough let alone two, but over that, you might need a serious stress reliever.

That stated, I agree with downloading a fresh copy of a lighter distro such as Lubuntu.
It'll make life much easier in the long run.
