    Deciding on Ubuntu Version

    Hi everyone,

Brand new ubuntu user here. I want to dual boot ubuntu and OS X for this machine:

    MacBook 5,1
Intel Core 2 Duo @2.4 GHz
    4 GB DDR3 RAM
    Mac OS X 10.8.4

This page recommends I install ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid).
My Question is could I install the newest version of ubuntu (13.04). If yes, would it cause any problems that would render it pointless and therefor just install 10.04?

    Thanks a lot.

Actually, Ubuntu® 10.4.7-LTS Lucid Lynx™ is only supported for Server applications, as of August 2013. Desktop and notebook applications should use 12.04.3-LTS Precise Pangolin™, if the equipment needs more stable software than is available for Ubuntu® 13.04 Raring Ringtail™ or 13.08b2 (scheduled for RTM October 2013 as 13.10) Saucy Salamander™.
nVIDIA® nForce® chipsets require discrete GPU's up to Pascal and appropriate nVIDIA Kernel modules.
Most intel® ExpressSets™ and AMD® RS-Series are fully supported in open source.
