Re: Security software
"Security Software" on Windows just attempts to protect you from viruses and malware - which basically doesn't exist on Linux.
Modern Windows security software also includes a firewall (you probably don't need one, unless you are running servers for personal use only) and alerts you to known phishing websites. Firefox and Chromium have anti-phishing built in on Linux.
Besides, Linux and Ubuntu are more carefully designed for security. There are extra security features built in. Program developers work within the security system, unlike in Windows where they don't understand and sometimes just try and get around the security features.
Short answer, unless you are doing something out of the ordinary, you don't need to add anything to Ubuntu to make it secure.

I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
