    12.04 - cd ripped but mp3s don't play

    Hi,
I ripped a couple of cds using ripperX, but the mp3s don't play.
The clemantine player lists the files but won't play them.
gmusicbrowser doesn't even list the files, even after doing a rescan!

The files are definitely there in the folders.
I have other mp3s that play without trouble (converted on an old windows pc).

    Any help gratefully received!

ok i seem to remember you need this installed

    sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3

    try that first

you may also need if not installed

    sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-good gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

and it certainly will not hurt to have those

    sudo apt-get install lame libmp3lame0 libmp3lame-dev

This should give full functionality in Clementine you may not need ALL of these; see how you go [and please tell us how you get on for future users thanx]

The only thing that wasn't already installed was the lame stuff.
Still no luck. Any more suggestions most appreciated, thanks.

problem with your ripped files then maybe

what does mediainfo read them as if you do not mind sharing that info

    cd to folder and

    mediainfo *.mp3

also do they play if you run
    mplayer *.mp3

I would be sure that the mp3's that you ripped are messed up somehow. You could try using other music software, like Banshee, which offers the ability to rip music from CDs.

I could try another app, but I expect something fundamental is wrong, and would like to understand what's wrong, if anyone can help.

    First I tried mediainfo:
    Code:
    $ mediainfo -f 01*.mp3

Then I tried mplayer and got something looking more useful:
    Code:
    $ mplayer 01\ -\ Is\ this\ love.mp3

    Playing 01 - Is this love.mp3.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Re: 12.04 - cd ripped but mp3s don't play

    hi DOnatello

there is nothing in your file

    File size :
    2.00 KiB !!
    File size : 2 KiB
    File size : 2.0 KiB
    File size : 2.00 KiB
    File size : 2.000 KiB
    Stream size : 2048
    Stream size : 2.00 KiB (100%)
    Stream size : 2 KiB
    Stream size : 2.0 KiB
    Stream size : 2.00 KiB
    Stream size : 2.000 KiB
    Stream size : 2.00 KiB (100%)
Proportion of this stream : 1.00000

    and (Audio: mp3, 0! channels, s16)

so i know nothing about ripperx but something did not work there [correction:now tried it on Ubuntu 13.04 where it works fine]

    Try another route:

put your disc again in cddrive and run [simple way]
    sudo apt-get install pacpl
    then

mkdir ~/Music/"Lianne la Havas" && pacpl --outdir ~/Music/"Lianne la Havas" --rip all -t mp3 --bitrate 320

    ● change name of folder both times to describe your disc name where it says "Lianne la Havas"
●and change 320 if you want a lower number

●if you want flac instead change last bit to
    Code:
    -t flac --fcomp 8

now run THOSE ripped files in clementine and please tell us how you get on
