Having HEAPS of issues with recording sound/video on my Ubuntu laptop?

Hello. I've been trying to record a video of me playing my bass (people want me to upload a video of me doing Aerials by System Of A Down on my bass onto facebook), but I seem to be having numerous issues with it. Let me list a few!

1. Whenever I hit ye ol' record button on cheese, the program crashes.
2. I downloaded guvcview instead, and tried that. It worked fine for a while, but now whenever I record a video, it plays back the video much faster than it should? Like, if I play the file in VLC, the video will go at like, 2x speed and the sound will go at 4x speed? It's weird, and annoying. (And yes, I HAVE made sure that it is set to playback at normal speed)
3. If I try to play the same file I recorded in guvcview with rhythmbox, the video plays upside-down.

Someone want to give me a helping hand before I format this hard drive and go back to windows?

If downloading from Youtube, in Firefox, go to Tools, Add-ons, Search for "Videodownloader". The first option works well for me. If not, upload to Youtube and follow same procedure. This is the simplest method I found and works like a charm. Hope this helps. Good luck.
