Should I bother installing ClamAV?
Should I bother installing ClamAV?
First of all ubuntu is based on linux and as we know there is very little chance for a linux virus to infect or create havoc in a system as ubuntu is open-source os developer from all around the world test ubuntu and if a security flaw or something like that is found it is fixed by them.So if you contact only with Ubuntu and Linux around you then i don't think you essentially need that but it does help you to scan pen drives hard drives for windows viruses so you can delete them and stop further spreading of malwares.
Sure, if you want to be nice to friends that have Windows' machines

I use it with a SATA/IDE USB adapter to scan drives and it works well. Also, I'm not positive but I think I once infected a Windows machine by passing along a Windows virus from files that were stored in linux so it can be a good thing to use, esp. in a mixed-enviornment.
