Checking RAM using Live Pendrive UBUNTU 12.04.2

I tried to check the RAM using Unetbootin (starts Ubuntu) which gives an option to test the memory.

I got the message: 'cannot load a ram disk with old kernal'

    'boot:'

Can I test the RAM using the live pendrive, I can't see a suitable utility?

    Thanks

how about using 13.04 and then running memtest? 13.04 should have newer kernel. unless the problme here is that whole OS is loaded into RAM in live session :-O
