Emails, SMS, phone, and boring old face-to-face

Spare your nerves and do one before you upgrade or install.

Re: Which is your main IM network?

I am involved with a loco team. I m doing ground work to spread Ubuntu. I concentrate to convert windows user to Ubuntu. I found in 90% cases users wants to use Yahoo. I found lots of converts returned to windows only because they cannot ask all of their friends to come on skype. The above pole will give the result only from ubuntu users I think. I use ubuntu so I have no way to use yahoo. So, I have no option to vote for yahoo. Because, I managed myself to transfer to skype but I lost lots of my friends in yahoo. What about for those who are going to convert in future? Still Ubuntu users are very little portion of total computer users in the world.

I am actually surprised to see that Jabber does not have more support amongst the community. Seems Skype has really worked it's way up to the top globally.

Oh my, that blasphemy is intolerable!
Use whatever OS or desktop works for you. Dual boot or use VMs if you want. Backup your computer regularly, and definitely before upgrading, partitioning, or installing an OS.

No support requests by PM please.

I wanted to get a Jabber account recently, only to be told that they weren't accepting new registrations. That doesn't help.

Didn't see a "Don't use an IM" so I just clicked "Other". Heck, I don't even like to text on my phone if I can help it. Faster for me to just call someone up and talk,LOL

At the time, I think it was about malicious registrations of some kind. Not sure. Anyway, almost no one I know uses IM.

Am I one of the few people who just don't use them?

Re: Which is your main IM network?

the *only* reason I might to use IM is because some members of my family currently live far, far away, so video chatting, from time to time could be nice. Except... we used to chat through Skype, but Skype ceased to recognize my webcam... I even thought my cam was broken, but no, it's a software problem with Skype, as my cam does lit up and work properly when I checked it with google+ hangouts. But the thing is I hate Gmail, and google hangouts, too. And my family doesn't have a Gmail account anyway...

I really need to ask how to unistall Skype and re-install it properly later on - this will be my next question here on this forum.

I also used my hotmail account - while checking emails, my closest friends/family could IM me, too. Since it became "outlook" and IMing has moved to Skype, I can't IM through the (former) Hotmail, either.

Oh, well... I don't IM that often after all. But it would be nice to be able to see my family on video chat from time to time.

Since becoming aware of the PRISM scandal that was recently revealed to the public, I think I'll skip IM-ing altogether and/or stick to PRISM-free options such as IRC and ICQ.
