Hopefully I'm posting this in the correct part of the forum.
I have two computers, a desktop PC running Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (planning to re-build with 13.04) connected to my router via cable and a laptop running Xubuntu 13.04, which connect via wireless
The desktop computer has a 2Tb external USB HDD on which are a collection of films and music.
Samba is used to create shares to these folders.
I access the shares from the laptop via wireless.
However, some videos fail to play, the player just hangs forcing killing from Task manager
I have tried using VLC (have used it for years) and SM player.
I have installed the Xubuntu-restricted-extras
I have followed the Multimedia howto (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683)
But still the problem persists.
The videos are in different formats, but it doesn't seem to matter which I try, some work and some just hang (some mp4's work some don't same with other formats)
Is there anything else I can try/test to see why some play and some don't?
Thanks all
