@VietCanada,
FVWM is completely configured by a single file. You can install it on your current install, it's extremely light weight and will not corrupt anything else you're using, nor be corrupted by it.

I've used a Mac exactly twice. The first time it was text driven. No mouse, big plastic discs. The second time was a couple years ago in a coffee shop here where I live and play. It was the latest version and I didn't like it at all. U 10.10 was way better. I was surprised since I 've always been a fan. I loved the coloured i-Macs and the ads with the two guys acting as OSs was absolutely brilliant, timelessly so.
But I've evolved. This was the next new brilliant- .
The latest brilliant however is how Canonical beat MS by designing a better OS for content consumption while trying to market it as suitable for productivity and multi tasking. Clearly neither can do the latter as well as just about any other OS in existence but it's equally clear that Canonical kicked MS butt. This is why I can so easily use an article about MS 8 in a debate about Canonical's OS.
Canonical's latest OS is absolutely not designed for productivity and multi tasking. I listed the reasons in my last post. Simply re-stating that it is is and ignoring my last post is disingenuous at best.
I'm an Amiga guy. There has never been an OS so user friendly and easily configurable as Amiga. I used AmigaBasic (MS software ironically) to rewrite the OS when I had problems. Nothing on the market today can touch it. I wrote software for my business and games. I owned that computer. Today I am a passenger with MS and the new Ubuntu but for a brief moment (U10.10) I was close to owning my computer again. And thank you for that you guys and gals who made it possible. Maybe FVWM can give me some of that back again. Linux is great.

TY. I have discovered that. It relly looks challenging. I might install a second copy of Mate just in case where I can learn how to use FVWM. Years of PEBCAK have made me cautious in my old age. LOL

Fine...but you need to qualify that by saying it is not designed for productivity and multi tasking as far as for you personally...That is not the case for the many of us that find unity Very Productive and also Very Good for multi tasking as well...
Personally, i find no difference in those aspects whether using what you have on mint mate or what i have on ubuntu's unity desktop...
The problem is you tend to make generalizations...and seem to feel that what is true for you must be true for everyone else....not the case...we all have different ways of doing things...it may not work for you but it works for me and a lot of others...
That is why you got you other thread closed down...because people get frustrated with your constant hammering of unity and how you feel you know what is best for everyone...

The new Canonical OS is designed for content consumption. That's my opinion. You have the option of ignoring me. If you present an argument I have the option of responding. If you present a poor argument, for example quoting me, ignoring my post and simply restating the point I was originally commenting on then I am more likely to respond.
The thread was closed because some people were obsessed with debating my opinion. As I said in my first response in this thread agreeing that Ubuntu has lost it's Ubuntu - this board has a more of a tendancy to be argumentative about the recent changes as opposed to helping users cope and adapt. Criticism is met with 'hater' and like responses. Ubuntu has lost it's Ubuntu. QED.
The posters recommending FVWM (sp?) were all the response that were necessary to my original post.

Most of us here enjoy using unity, find it very productive and do not agree with your opinion...you have a right to express it but it isn't going to change the fact that ubuntu has unity and it is here to stay...if you do not want to use it fine...but quite obviously, if it wasn't productive and easy to use then there would not be so many downloads of the main ubuntu going on every single day...so they must be doing SOMETHING right...end of discussion as far as i am concerned...

"Clearly"? Just your opinion. By repeating it ad nausum doesn't make it true. It is about on the same level as old people insisting that all modern music is crap and Frank Sinatra was the greatest thing since the big bang.
As noted on the other thread many of us do use Unity (and gnome shell too, which often suffers the same criticism from old school people) for multi-tasking and productive work with great efficiency. There is no reason why a productive machine has to be ugly and unpolished like a Windows XP clone and there is no reason a DE great for production cannot be great for "content consumption" as well.
Your citing of some "usability expert" is completely out of context, he was talking about win8, you made a leap in insisting that criricsm against Win8 somehow equally appies to Unity. I have no idea if his criticsm of win8 is correct since I don't use it, and it is irrelevant to Ubuntu and Unity. The only similarity I can see based on some very limited exposure to Win8 is that it is not like XP, and the similarity seems to end there.
BTW, Unity is not an OS, just saying.. If you use Mint you are using basically the same OS as Ubuntu sans the DE
