Strip out all GUI applicatins and gnome from Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop.

Good day. I have a small PC with a Vortex processor and I can only run 10.04 Desktop on it. I'm wanting to make the Desktop as light as possible, as much like server as possible. Is there a quick way to remove all GUI related software fro Ubuntu Desktop as I am interested in the box purely for storage and FTP. I will simply SSH into the device from time to time.

I can't install server as it won't boot.

I understand all that. It's the device I'm using, it will only run a modified version of 10.04 and I simply want to remove all GUI elements.
