    You should wait at least 24 hours to give people a chance to see your question before bumping. Usually the best way to bump a post is to add more information or clarifications to refine your question further.

    If the question is posted according to these guidelines bumping might not be needed at all.

    True, but I have had threads where I needed to bump them because the area they were posted in moves so fast.

    It also takes time for someone with knowledge of the problem or issue to find and read the thread.
