Ubuntu on my asus 1008p is extremly slow

Hello there,

I'm new to linux and i want to learn everything about linux.
I have asus 1008p notebook, i deleted Windows and install Ubuntu 13.04 in my notebook
and i noticed it's extremly slow !!

Can any body help me ??

Ubuntu might be a bit much for that netbook... try Xubuntu or Lubuntu.

Why did you delete Windows without testing Ubuntu first? Since you "want to learn everything about Linux," Lesson Zero is: most Linux distributions (or "distros") can be auditioned from a Live USB so you can take it for a test drive before you wipe your perfectly functional Windows install. I agree with mips that Ubuntu is not a good choice for your low-end "netbook" hardware. Ubuntu is really designed for modern, high-end hardware with dedicated graphics, i7 and the like.

Lubuntu may be a better choice.
Lubuntu, which uses the LXDE desktop environment, targeted at "normal computers" with 128 MB
With 512Mb of RAM and almost any processor, Lubuntu will perform more than adequately out-of-the box.

That's a bit much. It's ridiculously snappy on my i3, with integrated graphics. I worked with a netbook for a couple of years with the full Ubuntu desktop, although the performance seemed to dip rather drastically in 12.10. That, or I got pickier - in any case, I still wouldn't use the full Unity desktop on a netbook at this stage, so I'll buy that much.

actually if you have netbook with AMD cpu it will run OK. also if you use one of the supported intels from latest generations it will be OK. though some atoms are not really supported (the GPU) as the GPU was outsourced.

but why waste precious CPU power on desktop effects?
