Lot's changed in 2 years... HELP!

Hi all! Went back to Windows for a couple of years. Now I'm back and WOW! have things changed!!!

My question is this: Where are my games and other programs I installed? Used to be a menu on the task bar, in past versions, but nothing now. so where are they? I miss the menu...

Either click on the Ubuntu logo or hit the SUPER key to open the dash, then start typing what your looking for.

You may want to read the official desktop help...

You might also like to look at Xubuntu which uses the xfce4 desktop, and has becoming the best alternative for me now that unity has taken the prime place in Ubuntu.
It is fast, relatively low in resource use, attractive and incredibly configurable, even to the point of looking like gnome 2, if you want it to. No need to reinstall, just add the xubuntu-desktop package to your ubuntu system and you'll have Xubuntu as well as Ubuntu and can choose at login..

If you want to keep "unity" then you might want to install "classic menu" http://www.florian-diesch.de/softwar...enu-indicator/

or install Xubuntu instead of Ubuntu , it has a menu and is lighter .......

That's a personal opinion... I reckon it looks tacky at best. Sorry, but there you have it.

I prefer Gnome Shell 3.6, which has also become highly customisable too. Can also be installed and chosen at login. Needs less resources than Unity, but more than Xubuntu.

Yes, it is a personal opinion, the same as your opinion; personal.

I agree that the themes of Xubuntu are not fabulous, nor the default wallpapers, but who keeps them?

Not me! It's the overall manner in which the desktop is put together that makes it attractive, in my opinion.

PS: I have not tried gnome shell since I got my new desktop computer, and it would not run at all on my old one; nor would unity, which is why I moved to Xubuntu.
