Adding a fail over drive to RAID 1

I already have a RAID 1 system setup and running just fine. It has the minimum two drives, but now I'd like to add a third, fail over drive. I can't find any instructions on how to go about that. Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

    Are you using mdadm?

Have you googled 'adding a hot spare'?
