Do edited posts move up in rank? Or that doesn't change anything?

    From what I've seen, no.
They aren't new posts. new post=last post=most recent post.

But if something is so urgent, that a need to post every hour arises, I'd suggest scouring and searching the web instead.
There are a lot of solutions to a lot of problems all over the place. It just takes some digging sometimes.
And maybe, if digging finds the answer, you can post you solved it, and how you solved it.

Re: How should one keep thread active?

As far as I know, a thread doesn't automatically close. It stays open, but as more posts on other threads are made, they push your thread down the list, until it's not on the 1st page, and no one's likely to post on it unless they actively search for it.

So bumping doesn't "keep the thread open" - it just ensures that that the thread is bumped back up to the top of the list. If it disappears off the front page, it means no one has posted on it. So you could bump it again... but in my experience 1 bump is generally enough, if it still attracts no posts that probably means no one can help, and you'll have to find help in some other way.
