I also can't help but notice network manager doesn't show as many options as it should. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like on my computer. Does this look correct to you? Seems to be missing a few things maybe.

Re: Ubuntu 12.04 doesn't recognize wireless

OK, lets go back with the rt2800pci driver..
This is like creating a fine wine, takes a little
time to get that just right blend.
    open a terminal and do..
    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
    REMOVE..
    Code:
    blacklist rt2800pci
    blacklist rt2800lib
    blacklist rt2x00pci
    blacklist rt2x00lib
    ADD..INSERT
    Code:
    blacklist rt2860sta
    SAVE and close gedit.
then..didnt think we were through did you?
    open another terminal and do...
    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/modules
    REMOVE
    Code:
    rt2860sta
    SAVE and close gedit
remove the ethernet cable and boot
    thanks.
